Aspire receives £277,000 from National Lottery Fund, ‘Women in the Lead’

Local community group, Aspire Learning, Support and Well-being, are celebrating after being awarded £277,000 in National Lottery funding to support its work towards putting ‘Women In The Lead’. The group, based in Chester-le-Street, will use the money to continue providing a safe space for women all over the North-East through their classes, support and wellness groups.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, recognises the importance of women’s groups like Aspire that place ‘Women in the Lead’, therefore providing three years of funding for the centre, amounting to £277,000.

The project's overall aim is to provide a gender specific trauma informed personalised, holistic approach to the need of local women to build resilience, develop a sense of ownership, putting women in the lead of their lives. With this funding Aspire aims to improve women’s physical and mental wellbeing, sense of belonging, resilience and self-worth and confidence.

Janice Rokni, Director, says: “This funding will truly support women to have choice and control over their own lives and will enable our much in demand support and wellness services to continue and grow in response to need”

Aspire will further develop their existing support and wellness services, their peer led, co-produced volunteering programme and strengthen their organisation sustainability.
